Children of God

Scripture gives us the beautiful truth that when we accept God’s gift of salvation, he adopts us as his children.  We become part of his family, anticipate our future inheritance, and receive eternal life with Christ.  Paul writes in Ephesians 1:3-6, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.”

When children are adopted into families it becomes a beautiful picture of the gospel.  It is a reminder that God has chosen and adopted us into his eternal family.  I love this song, “Children of God” by Third Day.  In this video (be sure to watch to the end!), they draw on Ephesians 1 and 1 John 3:1 and remind us to reflect on this gift: “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”
